Allan Engelhardt, Solutions Director at The PCA Group, will be speaking on “Orchestrating real-time decision making: Predictive analytics and data mining your business rules” at the Oracle Business Intelligence Symposium 2009 in London on 11 March 2009.
Business rules and predictive models are everywhere in your enterprise. Marketing systems, risk management, CRM and workflow, and product catalogues are just some of the systems within our organisations that hold rules and very often associated models.
How do we ensure all rules are aiming to deliver the same business objectives? How do we ensure the end-to-end customer experience is consistent across multiple systems? How do we even know what is going on in the business? We know how to mine our data and gain intelligence from it, but what is the equivalent for our rules and models?
This becomes increasingly important as more decisions are delivered in real time by systems or by people supported by strong tools. There is little room for error.
We will look at how a mobile telco moved Marketing to a central decision platform and highlight some of the lessons learnt. We will discuss the relative merits of centralised decisions versus distributed but orchestrated decision systems and of explicit rules versus automated (but constrained) predictive rules and analytics. We will touch upon techniques for collecting rules and models from multiple systems and analysing them (“business intelligence for business rules”).
